When You Hear The Beep...

Last night my roommates and I were reminded of the epic game show, Supermarket Sweep. If you aren't familiar with this game, let me explain it: There are three team of contestants, they answer some trivia related to average supermarket items to gain points. Then at the end they have to run around a supermarket and get the most expensive items they can find. The person with the most points (most expensive basket) wins! No one seems to air this show anymore, but we were lucky enough to find it on YouTube. And it was just as amazing as well all remembered!!

This Supermarket Sweep madness got us thinking about other game shows we've watched and loved. Here's the list I came up with (Keep in mind I did not have cable growing up , so I don't know many of those nickelodean/disney type games):

Shop Till You Drop
Jeopardy ( I love it when I get these one right. It makes you feel so smart!)
Wheel of Fortune
The Newlywed Game
The Price is Right (I will forever remember to spay and neuter my pets.)
Family Feud (So many hosts. I think my favorite was when Richard Karn hosted, just because it always made me think of Home Improvement)
Hollywood Squares
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (I remember when this was THE thing. We still have the board game version at home)
The Weakest Link
Pyramid
Street Smarts
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
Are You Smarter than a 5th grader?
Deal or No Deal

Anyway that's it. I'd just thought I'd pass on that little blast from the past. Nowadays I feel like reality shows have kind of taken the place of gameshows on TV (Although it can be kind of a fine line sometimes. Some shows seem to be a little bit of both.). But old-school gameshows will come back in fashion one day. And when that day comes I'll be ready!

Currently: thinking about Pax shows (Where Supermarket Sweep used to air) Does anyone remember Diagnosis Murder and Pet Miracles?! oh Pax TV!

SYTYCD

So work was terrible yesterday. Truly terrible.(This wasn't really reflected in my post yesterday because I actually wrote that a couple of days ago and just got around to spell checking and hitting publish). The only highlight to my day was watching the first top 20 episode of So You Think You Can Dance. So I think I am just going to ignore real life for a bit and fixate on that. Life is about to get super busy so I'm relishing this TV watching time that I have.

Fox.com
Anyways, ten couples danced. Here were the ones that stood out to me (I'll keep it short):

Phillip and Jeanine. Loved it, but I pretty much always love a Napoleon and Tabitha story dance.
Ade and Melissa. Beautiful, in a retro kind of way.
Caitlin and Jason. Who doesn't love Bollywood? Plus the kiss at the end was fun :)
Randi and Evan. Mandy Moore's choreography = Magic.

Those were my four favorite couples. I thought they were a little hard on Vitolio, Asuka, Paris, and Tony. I mean they weren't great but I enjoyed their dances. The truth is I pretty much liked all of them, and I could have talked in depth about every single one, but I am pretty sure nobody wants to read that! Anyways, the only couple I didn't really like was Jonathon and Janette. I also didn't really get into Wade Robson's crash dummy thing. Maybe it was the white face paint thing. That was super distracting.I can't wait to see who got voted off tonight. Alright I'm off to live in the real world again.

Wind in the Face

All right kids it's time for your daily injection of pop culture. Tonight was the kick off of ANTM's 12th cycle. And Top Model did not hold back the crazy. Be warned, if you haven't watched it yet, this is half opinion, half recap. Also if you do not want to know who was eliminated tonight do not read the last paragraph :)

The night started out in Vegas where they revealed the theme of the cycle, "Goddesses". This meant angelic white dresses, little gold laurels, and Tyra as the Goddess of Fierce complete with her own entourage of Greek soldiers. You would think by now the contestants of top model would recognize when Tyra is making her first grand entrance, yet every cycle they are surprised, confused, and then, of course, extremely excited. One of the girls even called Tyra extraterrestrial. Know I don't know if that is true, but I will give it to Tyra for putting on a new show every cycle, she's never boring and she never disappoints.

After they narrowed down the choices, they took the girls to New York. This was a two hour episode so we got to see the girls through their first photo shoot. It was based on the idea that girls grow up to fast. The models had to portray innocent childhood games, while mean girl model extras stood glaring at them in the background. I loved all the little girl high fashion outfits.

Anyways, down to business: The Girls

First off, Aminat. She is my favorite so far. I can't help it, I love a girl who is not afraid to rock 3 inch heels even though she already towers over 6 feet. She also some how manages to work the 'fro. Another memorable face was Thalia. She is a burn survivor and is trying to be a role model for other girls who suffer from the same thing. Kortnie is the only plus size model this cycle, and Sandra seems determined to play the drama queen. The deceiving thing about Sandra is she says everything with this huge, gorgeous smile. Even when she is mad and confessing to the cameras she is smiling. There was also Allison, a more timid girl with big eyes that seems a little odd. But odd in the adorable way, not the stay away from me way (although she does have some strange ideas, google Allison, top model, and blood and you'll see what I mean). Then of course there is Celia. A sweet little blond who reminds me of Kyra Sedgwick. The more obvious look alike matches (and I have already heard other people say this as well so I know I'm not crazy on this one) was Isabella ( a model who suffers from epilepsy) and Kerrington from the last season of So You Think You Can Dance.

These pictures of Kyra and Celia aren't the best examples. You can see it better when Celia isn't trying to be so modelesque; but you can at least see where I am coming from, right? Oh and I almost forgot Teyona the girl who kind of looks like an alien according to the judges. Finally at the end they decided to call her look "Wind in the Face." Well I seem to be rambling so I'll reduce the rest of the girls to random stereotypes and titles. There was Jessica, the pretty girl, Natalie, a rich girl, Fo, the interesting, yet lovable one, Nijah, the girl I don't remember and London, the street preacher who likes to wear skinny headbands across her forehead.

All in all it was a fun night and a good premiere even if they did decide to keep Sandra, and not Isabella. I can't wait for next week. It looks like there will be makeover tears.
